CITY COUNCIL MEETING 02/12/18 (Golf Course Name Change, Annual Budgets, Police Funds, Assistant Auditor Hire)

Chillicothe City Council members are considering changing the name of the city's 18-hole golf course from Green Hills Golf Course to Litton Ranch Golf Club. The proposal comes from Great Life, which contracted with the city last year to manage the city-owned course. Company representative Josh Black introduced the idea during the council's workshop meeting in late January. "His thought is that there are so many things named Green Hills," said City Administrator Darin Chappell. Litton Ranch is something unique to Chillicothe, and the golf course was constructed on land that once was part of the Litton Charolais Ranch. "It might be better to draw on that historical, cultural context, which is unique to Chillicothe," Chappell said. "It's not generic like 'Green Hills.'" Chappell noted that the Litton Family Foundation had been contacted and is supportive of the proposed name change. Council members are scheduled to discuss the proposal and possibly vote on the new name during the their regular meeting tonight at City Hall. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. If approved, the new branding will be implemented on the course's promotional materials.

Also Monday, the council will begin the budgeting process by hearing annual reports from representatives of the Grand River Area Family YMCA, the University of Missouri Extension Council, and the Chillicothe Area Arts Council. These entities are a few which contract with the city to provide services for the citizens of Chillicothe. The city's budget year begins April 1.

Also Monday, Police Chief Jon Maples is on the agenda to request reallocation of police funds for police education.

An executive session, closed the public, is scheduled to follow the regular meeting, if necessary. (See below.)

The Chillicothe City Council met in executive session and voted on a personnel issue, voting to hire Christine Regan as the full-time assistant to the auditor.
