Council Hires Police, EMS Personnel

The Chillicothe Police Department force is at full staff with the new addition of three full-time officers whose hirings have been made within the last several weeks. The latest additions, as voted on by the city council during their regular meeting Monday night, are Jeffrey Herman and Jeremy Stephens Robert Heldenbrand was hired at the city's last meeting in May. The department is up to full staffing with 17 officers. Along with the hiring of new police officers, city council members approved the hiring of a new Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services member: Robert Williams.

Chillicothe City Council members had a light agenda Monday night. In addition to the employment matters, the council recognized Ron Keith who was retiring off the Park Board. First Ward Councilman Earle Teegarden, Jr. presented Keith with a plaque for his eight years of service. Keith was no longer able to serve because of term limits. "We appreciate his service and he is a great asset to the city," Mayor Chuck Haney said.

In other business Monday night, the council approved the mayor's appointment of former Churchill Truck Lines owner Kenneth Churchill to serve on the Park Board. Mel Gregg was elected to serve on the Railroad Board. Mayor Chuck Haney commended the Department of Emergency Services and the police department for their reaction time last Tuesday during the tornado warnings. The mayor noted that in response to the threatening weather and the tornado sirens, emergency personnel checked public places including the parks to ensure people had sought adequate shelter. Mayor Haney presided over Monday night's meeting with the full council in attendance.
