- Hedrick Medical Center recently recognized its Auxiliary members with an appreciation reception hosted by employees and administrators at the hospital on April 2 as a part of the regular monthly
Auxiliary meeting. In 2017, Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary volunteers contributed more than 7,600 hours of service to the
hospital's employees, patients, and families.

A luncheon was held to celebrate the service and accomplishments of the volunteers this past year. Volunteer hour milestones were recognized for 20 Auxiliary volunteers. Donnie Davis was honored as the 2017 Auxilian of the Year for consistent outstanding performance. Davis has been a volunteer since 2012. He received several nominations for this
award and is the first male HMC Auxiliary volunteer to receive this award. Those who nominated Davis used phrases such as
"very friendly," "always makes patients feel
comfortable," and "always willing to fill in where and when
needed." Davis works a regular volunteer shift but is often seen throughout the week as a fill-in when another volunteer is unable to work at his/her assigned time. In addition to his time at Hedrick, Davis is involved in other community events and enjoys watching his grandchildren participate in many activities.
The Auxiliary has more than 100 active and lifetime members. Active members provide numerous services to the hospital, including operating the Gift Box, the
hospital's gift shop. Other areas where Auxiliary volunteers provide service include the Medical Plaza, the Ambassador Desk, the OB department, and the Specialty Clinics.
As an active proponent of health care careers, the Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary has awarded over $82,500 in scholarships to individuals since 1998. Recipients use the funds toward careers such as nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy, medicine, and speech therapy.
