City Seeks $110,000 Housing Grant
Published: Monday, September 22, 2008, C-T

The City of Chillicothe through Green Hills Community Action Agency and Main Street Chillicothe is applying for a $110,000 grant to rehabilitate homes near the downtown area. The grant, Home Repair Opportunities, is for homeowners meeting certain income eligibility requirements and residing near the downtown area.

Jena Constant-Eskew, executive administrator for Main Street Chillicothe, told council members about the program during their regular council meeting Monday night at City Hall. She said that the city’s designation as a state-sponsored DREAM community makes eligibility possible. The grant, if awarded, does not require a local funding match.

Eligible homes must be within a perimeter of downtown bordered by Polk Street on the north, Clay Street on the south, Woodward Street on the east and Dickinson Street on the west.

Eskew said that the grant would be used for up to five homes. The qualifying homes would be owner occupied and the owners must live in the home three years after the rehabilitation is completed or else pay back the grant money.
