Last of Prison Items Up for Bid
Published: Monday, March 30, 2009, C-T

The state of Missouri has retrieved all the property it plans to from the old Department of Corrections facility on Third Street and has now started accepting sealed bids for what is left. There are hundreds of items remaining that are divided into over 100 lots. Among items included are kitchen items, picnic tables, doors, benches, assorted computer tables, desks, fans, dishes, book cases, TVs, VCRs, copiers, shelving units, chairs, file cabinets, buffers, computers and a few vehicles.

The surplus items are listed on the state’s website at http://oa.mo.gov/purch/surplus/SB21-09.pdf. Bidding will close at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8. Anyone who wants to see the items should contact Steve Moore at the facility at 660-707-1518 or 660-646-4032 to coordinate a time to view the property.

Warden Jennifer Miller said that the Department of Corrections has transferred all the items they want and is getting ready to deed the property over to the city of Chillicothe. She said that transaction is hoped to take place by May 1.

The city does not yet have plans for the old prison property on the south side of Third Street.
