  • Hedrick Medical Center

Hedrick Medical Center was founded in 1888 as St. Mary's Hospital. It came under the City of Chillicothe's ownership in 1937, when the City built a new three-story brick hospital adjacent to the original frame structure. In 1972, the City acquired additional property to the north and built a new 80-bed hospital adjacent to the three-story brick building. This new facility was named Hedrick Medical Center after Ira and Minnie Hedrick, founders of the Hedrick Foundation, which helped fund the new multimillion-dollar facility. The old three-story brick facility was renovated and renamed Hedrick Office Building to provide space for physician offices. In 2003, the City partnered with Saint Luke's Health System in Kansas City, Missouri. Through a long-term agreement, Saint Luke's assumed management of Hedrick's day-to-day operations and brought many significant improvements to the quality of care available to local residents. This included access to new physicians and medical providers, advanced technologies, and innovative treatments. In 2005, Hedrick Medical Center was designated a Critical Access hospital with 25 beds. The current, state-of-the-art Hedrick Medical Center opened in February, 2014.
