Full-Time NON-EMERGENCY SERVICES CALL TAKER needed to serve the City of Chillicothe and Livingston County Missouri. We are looking for community-oriented individuals who can multitask and want to help serve the public. No experience is necessary, training is provided.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate or equivalent, have a valid Missouri Operators License and have no felony convictions and no serious misdemeanors or domestic violence convictions. The City of Chillicothe offers an excellent benefit package: 100% paid employee health insurance; flex spending plan; 100% paid retirement; YMCA and Chilli Bay membership; paid sick leave; 2 weeks paid vacation increasing to 3 weeks after 10 years of service; Longevity pay includes a 2% raise after 5 years of service, 1 week’s extra pay/annually for 15-19 years of service and 2 week’s extra pay/annually for 20 plus years of service.

Starting pay is $15.75/hour plus 12 paid holidays, eligible for cost of living raises and overtime. Day shift hours, with every other weekend off after training is completed. Upon successful training, have an opportunity to be promoted to Emergency 911 Dispatcher at $17.00/hour.

Candidates must participate in an observation session in dispatch, pass an oral interview process, a drug screen, and hearing test. Successful candidate must complete a field training program within your first three months on the job. Example of essential job duties;

  • Accurately, quickly, and courteously receive incoming non-emergency telephone calls and extract the maximum amount of essential information in a minimum time.
  • Gathers factual information about certain non-emergency incidents and generates appropriate reports.
  • Processes confidential, sensitive and/or occasionally graphic information from the general public.
  • Accurately and quickly utilize computer- aided dispatch system facilities for non-emergency complaint taking.
  • Receives and enters non-emergency complaints into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.  Transfer appropriate calls to the necessary surrounding agency/staff.
  • Operates telephones and computer systems.
  • Acts as a liaison between E-911 Dispatch and the general public.
  • Participates in job-related training sessions and meetings.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
